his story

I am a Scottish based artist; I was born in Hawick in 2003 and lived there my entire life until moving for university. I have been studying art for five years now, from 2021 until 2024 I studied at Borders College and then at Grays School of Art from 2024 onwards. My work is primarily oil painting and would typically fall under the category of vanitas and/or self portraits.
My art is me. I use my paintings as a way to explore and have a conversation with parts of myself that I find fascinating, scary, annoying, beautiful, and so much more. I have explored my interest and fear with death, depicting it in different ways as the conversation continues to grow. I have had an argument with myself surrounding being transgender and the pain it causes me then the relief from transitioning. I gave my autism a face, my fears an identity, and my growth a reflection. My art is personal and an in-depth exploration of what makes me. In a way it is almost a dairy made of oil, I paint my inner thoughts instead of writing them down and they become easier to manage.
I am still very much learning, I have two more years left at university and I'm not sure what the future holds, simply a desire to keep creating. Art has always been my passion since I was a small child who drew on the walls and dealt with big feeling wielding a pencil and brush. My style is still developing as I take in more art and my influences change, currently I am interested in historical paintings and the techniques used. I am influenced by artists like Ken Currie, Rembrandt, Jenny Seville, and many others. I aim to understand and express myself in a way that can make others curious about themselves and others. If my paintings cause people to have a conversation, no matter who it is with. I feel like I have been successful.
